how to attach a board to a plastic soda bottle to make a see saw for a science project?
We are laying a soda bottle on its side and placing a board over it. We need to be able to hit one end to launch an object on the other side. We can't figure out how to attach the board so it doesn't fly off when it gets hit. Maybe a board isn't the best material.
First, fill up the soda bottle completely full of water and pressurize a little so it is a little rigid. I would pressurize it by have someone hold the bottle, start the lid on the thread. Wrap your hand around it the loose lid, then holding the running hose tightly in to pressurize everything while holding the lid firmly. If you can't turn the lid, just hold it while your buddy turns the bottle. Try several times til you get nice and firm. It this doesn't work, try filling bottle most of the way with water, fill all the rest with soda, close lid to pressurize a lot.
You could nail two pieces of wood to the bottom of the wood. Cut out a circle that matches the soda bottle.
Simpler, drill a few holes in the board. Put strong cord through the holes, wrap around bottle, back up through board. Kind of like sewing on a button.
