Why do the Lions play on Thanksgiving every year?Is this a tradition in the NFL?
Today at school, I was asking a lot of friends and teachers why do the Lions play on Thanksgiving every year. I remember that I was watching their game with the Titans last year and I was disturbed by their ugly plain blue jerseys also they got destroyed 47-10.
It goes back to the 50s when the Lions were led by future HOF QB Bobby Layne and DB Dick "Night Train" Lane. The game was played in Detroit at Briggs (Tiger) Stadium to a full house sellout. It became a 12:30 tradition every year due to the popularity.
Even though the Lions have struggled the last couple of years, it is what a number of families in Michigan and NW Ohio plan their thanksgiving festivities around. SAme in Dallas since the early 70s.
