i have a pair of black gt3 rotas with chrome lip..how can i prepare correctly to paint them white and keep the?
i know some of you will just say buy some white rims...but i want to see if i can save some money while doing it correctly i know there is good preparation involved i am am just not so sure what tools to use like sand paper to sand them down. my goal is to have them with a nice glossy white while keeping the chrome lip please help...
First off, you will want to tape off what you don't want painted or scratched by the sandpaper.
Then, take a red scuff pad and sand the areas you want painted. Wipe down with a wet rag to remove any dust.
Afterwards, spray a couple coats of primer (gray is the best).
Once it has dried, sand down with sandpaper around 600 grit, and then again with a 1200 grit. Once again, wipe down with a wet rag.
Finally, spray a couple coats of white paint making sure that no gray shows through, and finish off with a couple coats of clear.
I would suggest cutting around the edge of the tape where it meets the painted part (making sure to not dig into the metal), so when you pull off the tape it doesn't pull up the paint.
